Meghan’s review of Lisbon

I was incredibly lucky to be invited to experience some of Lisbon’s most iconic luxury hotels and sites, with a packed itinerary showcasing the very best of Portugal’s capital city.

First, the hotels, from the striking MYRIAD by SANA and breathtaking skyline views from the top of the Vasco da Gama Tower at Babylon360, to the contemporary luxury of EPIC SANA Lisboa Hotel and EPIC SANA Marquês, offered a different perspective on Lisbon’s luxury scene at every stop.

I also had the opportunity to preview the recent luxury addition, MYTHIC SANA Downtown Suites - a really special all-suite boutique hotel.

For a lunch spot, I highly recommend heading to SUD Lisboa Terrazza and the adjoining event hall that overlooks the River Tagus and the iconic 25 de Abril Bridge, one of the city’s most spectacular settings.

Alongside these fabulous hotels, I experienced Lisbon life with a walking tour through the cobbled streets of the city’s downtown, followed by a memorable catamaran cruise along the Tagus River, made even more special by dolphins appearing alongside us. The food is next level; you must sample the pastéis de nata and ginjinha for the authentic Portuguese touch!

For families, there’s so much choice. The long golden beach is a perfect place to pitch up for the day, with plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from. There’s a great aquarium and science museum to visit and lots of fun ways to get around the city: a cable car, trams, a hippotrip (Amphibious Sightseeing Tour) and a funicular!

Lisbon offers the perfect blend of historic charm and modern sophistication, colourful tiled facades, vintage trams, centuries-old architecture and a relaxed, understated energy. Combined with a thriving food scene and over 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s easy to see why the city continues to grow in popularity. The best times to visit are spring (March to May) and early autumn (September to October), when temperatures are warm, the city is lively but less crowded. Even better, Lisbon is just a 2 hour 15 minute flight from London, making it an ideal luxury city escape.
